First Image of Mars from CubeSat NASA

Mars captured by NASA's MarCo Mission (Cubesat)
NASA's first mission - MarCo - a cubesat for testing its operations in deep space activities. This cubesat directed towards Mars along with Mars InSight lander which is aimed to land in November 2018.

During its course of travel, CubeSat transmitted its first image targeting Mars on 3 October 2018. The first ever image of the red planet produced by tiny satellite. Above image released by NASA on its website on 23 October 2018. This cubesat consist of two spacecraft MarCo-A and MarCo-B.

The primary objective of this Cubesat is to test the survival chance in deep space and to act as relay between NASA's InSight Mars lander and Earth during the course of entry, descent and landing. The above image is taken at a distance of 12.8 million kilometers away from the Red Planet.

To achieve its prime objective, it has to travel 85 million kilometers more for InSight landing. Both the spacecraft have already travelled 399 million kilometers.

BepiColombo Launch 20 Oct 2018

Mission to the Mercury

BepiColombo launch from French Guiana
A collaborative mission between European Space Agency and Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency to the smallest planet in our solar system Mercury lifted off from launch pad at French Guiana Research Center, Kourou on 19th October 2018 at 02:45 AM according to UK standard time.

The spacecraft BepiColombo intended to spend 7 years cruise towards the planet. It will separate into two spacecraft and will conduct orbit around Mercury for a year. It is delineated that, the mission cost was around $2 billion USD dollars.

The spacecraft was launched onboard Arianespace Ariane 5 ECA launch vehicle carrying the spacecraft together. It will explore and gather more information about the inner most planet in our solar system. This attempt was so long since Messenger intended to flyby observations.

BepiColombo planned to begin its observation in December 2025 following the series of one of Earth flybys, two to Venus and six flybys to Mercur. Travelling from Earth's orbit to Mercury takes longer time. Perhaps, it allows scientists and engineers to test their instruments onboard before reaching Mercury's orbit.

It has Mercury Planetary Orbiter designed and built by European Space Agency | Mercury Magnetospheric Orbiter built by Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency.

Parker Solar Probe completed Venus flyby

Parker Solar Probe | Venus Flyby
NASA's Parker Solar Probe successfully completed Venus flyby at a distance about 2414 kilometers during the gravity assist of the mission. The gravity assist is performed to increase the velocity of the spacecraft to reach much closer to the Sun during the course of mission.

NASA announced that Venus flyby data will be assessed within next few days. This data may help researchers to prepare for next flyby over the course of the seven year mission and it may also help other researchers as a guide for upcoming solar probes.

 About Parker Solar Probe:

Parker Solar Probe is the first space probe to reach near to the Sun than ever spacecraft attempted. It will revolutionize our understanding of the Sun. it will study Sun penetrating through the atmosphere of the Sun. The probe was launched on 12th August 2018 from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Florida. It is considered that it will unlock the mysteries of the Sun due to its advanced features and precised instruments installed onboard. Parker Solar Probes is a part of "Living with a Star Program" to explore the Earth-Sun systems managed by Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt.  And the mission is manaed by Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory in Laurel, Maryland. It also responsible for design and building of the spacecraft.

ExoMoon Discovery - Hubble Space Telescope

Hubble Discovery of New Exomoon outside our Solar System     Image Credit: ESA/NASA
Highlights
  • Discovery of new exomoon beyond our solar system
  • The moon is named as Kepler-1625b
  • Unexpected discovery during analizing Kepler Space Telescope Data
  • Researchers from Columbia University (Alex Teachy and David Kipping) were the discoverer
NASA scientists discovered a new moon outside our solar system which is found to be orbiting around a exoplanet. This discovery made possible by the efforts of ESA/NASA's Hubble Space Telescope and Kepler Space Telescopes. This moon is about 8000 light years away from us and can be found in the constellation of Cygnus. Researches from Columbia University found that this moon is orbiting a giant gas planet and a star called Kepler-1625.

Finding exoplanet is very critical task because we cannot locate any planets using our telescopes. Researchers used to find these planets by using Transit method ( dimming of star light when a planet crosses it). And finding moons around a exoplanet is too critical and difficult task than finding exoplanet. Like minded scientists like Alex Teachey and David Kipping analyzed data from 284-Kepler discovered planets and they found this moon by the variance of light detected by our space telescopes. Moons which are found outside our solar systems are called Exomoons and they named this moon as Kepler-1625b because it orbits around planet Kepler-1625.

After continuous observation of Kepler-1625 planet for about 19 hours, they noticed some decrease in brightness approximately after 3.5 hours and confirmed the moon orbiting the planet. This discovery will be a key role future exomoons discovery.

In future exomoons will be searched by using advanced precision instruments mounted onboard NASA's James Webb Space Telescope. It will be used to find moon candidates with much greater detail than Kepler Space Telescope.
